NEW EVENT: 3D Digitization in Practice – From the Field to Use

26 Feb, 2026 | Return|

Organized by the Department of Art History of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana in cooperation with Orsula d.o.o., the National Gallery of Slovenia and Media Production 100 GmbH, we are thrilled to announce a dissemination event presenting the latest milestones of the RCtoDC (From Raw Collection to Digital Collection) project!

The event will take place on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 10:00 to 16:00 at the National Gallery of Slovenia.

Please note: Due to overwhelming interest, the number of available seats has been exceeded and applications for the event are now closed. We are unfortunately unable to accept any more applications.

The RCtoDC project represents a major step forward in the digital transformation of European cultural heritage institutions. Through the cross-border collaboration of Croatian, Slovenian, and Austrian partners, we are using advanced 3D and XR technologies to digitize at-risk cultural artifacts.

The program will feature:

  • Project Insights: An introduction to the RCtoDC project and its role in providing digital access to cultural heritage.
  • Workshop: A step-by-step showcase of 3D data capture and processing using one of the sculptures from the National Gallery collections. The workshop aims to cover the entire workflow—from data acquisition using both professional equipment and smartphones, to the preparation of 3D models.
  • Expert Panel Discussion: A multidisciplinary dialogue featuring experts from restoration, museum work, conservation, archival science, media, and research. The panel will address the real-world possibilities, limitations, and future potential of using 3D digitization across various institutions.

If you missed the chance to register, don't worry—video recordings and presentations from the event will be available online. We will be sharing key takeaways, presentations, and access to the new digital collections shortly after the event concludes.
