A Day of Digital Heritage: 3D Scanning the Immaculate Mary Sculpture in Karlovac

15 May, 2025 | Return|

We are thrilled to share the news of a successful day in Karlovac, where our team completed a full 3D scanning session of the iconic Immaculate Mary sculpture. This cherished landmark, standing in the heart of the city, has now been digitally preserved in high detail thanks to the dedication and precision of our scanning crew.

The scanning process took place under challenging conditions, given the scope of construction works taking place at the location. The sculpture was difficult to access, however we were able to capture every angle and intricate feature of the sculpture. From the delicate folds of Mary's robe to the globe on which she stands, our team used advanced photogrammetry and structured light scanning techniques to ensure a faithful digital replica.

This project is part of our ongoing effort to safeguard cultural heritage through cutting-edge technology. By creating accurate digital models of historic monuments, we not only contribute to their preservation but also make them more accessible to researchers, educators, and the wider public.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Franciscan monastery, conservators and the contruction crew in Karlovac for their support, and to the many curious onlookers who stopped by to ask questions and show their interest.

Stay tuned for updates as we process and refine the 3D model. We look forward to sharing the final digital version of the Immaculate Mary sculpture with you soon!
