New Milestone: 3D Scanning of Robba’s Sculptures at St. Francis Assisi Church

14 Nov, 2025 | Return|

We’re pleased to share another exciting achievement from the RCtoDC (From Raw Collection to Digital Collection) project. Our latest fieldwork brought us to the Church of St. Francis Assisi in Ljubljana, where we successfully completed the 3D digitization of two remarkable Baroque sculptures by Francesco Robba (1698–1757): Saint Anthony of Padua and Saint Bonaventure, created around 1747.

Originally crafted for the church’s main altar, these sculptures underwent a long journey of relocation. After the removal of the altar in 1911–1912, the works were placed in new settings before finally finding their present home in 1927 at the Church of St. Francis Assisi. Today, thanks to advanced 3D scanning technology, we are able to preserve these masterpieces in digital form—capturing not only their artistic beauty but also their historical context.

The high-resolution digital models produced during this campaign will support research, conservation efforts, and broader public access. By making these works digitally available across Europe, we help ensure that their cultural and artistic value can be studied and appreciated for generations to come.

This accomplishment reflects our ongoing commitment to safeguarding cultural heritage through digital innovation. We extend our sincere thanks to our partners and hosts at the church of St. Francis Assisi in Ljubljana for their cooperation and support during this stage of the project.

As the RCtoDC project continues, we look forward to sharing more updates from our digitization efforts. Stay tuned for more adventures as we work to protect and promote Europe’s cultural heritage.
