Digitized Sculpture of Adoring Angel Now Online
We’re excited to announce our newest digital capture: a 3D scan of Francesco Robba’s Adoring Angel, part of the Altar of the Holy Body in St Nicholas’ Cathedral in Ljubljana.
This expressive Baroque sculpture—positioned on the right side of the altar—has now been preserved in detailed digital form, expanding access for research, conservation, education, and public appreciation.
How We Scanned It
To faithfully reproduce the angel’s intricate carving and delicate facial expression, we used a hybrid scanning and photogrammetry workflow.
The sculpture was captured using:
All datasets were aligned and processed in Artec Studio 19, ensuring excellent color fidelity, geometric precision, and a clean, optimized mesh.
Our Workflow
By combining multiple scanning systems, we captured the sculpture at both macro and micro levels.
Structured-light scanning ensured reliable geometry even in deeply carved or shadowed areas, while DSLR photogrammetry provided vivid, true-to-life textures.
The final digital model was reconstructed, cleaned, and optimized in Artec Studio 19, resulting in a faithful digital representation of Robba’s original masterpiece.
