Bringing Baroque Heritage Online: Joseph Straub’s Kneeling Angels

27 Feb, 2026 | Return|

We’re excited to present our latest digital heritage project: immersive 3D models of the wooden polychrome sculptures of Kneeling Angels.

Hand-carved in the second quarter of the 18th century by Baroque master Joseph Straub (1712–1756), these remarkable sculptures are part of the National Gallery of Slovenia's collection. Following extensive conservation from 2006 to 2010, our digitization efforts now provide a new way to interact with Straub's artistry.

How We Captured It To ensure the safety of the fragile wood, we used a completely contactless, hybrid workflow:

  • Artec 3D Leo: Provided high-accuracy scanning of the angel's complex geometry.

  • Canon EOS R5 Mark II: Captured the polychrome details through high-resolution photogrammetry.

The result is a highly accurate, production-ready digital replica. You can zoom in to inspect the fine details on your screen, or use Augmented Reality (AR) to virtually place the 18th-century angels at true scale in your own space.
