Digitizing the Baroque: Three New 3D Models

13 Mar, 2026 | Return|

We’ve digitized three historic 17th and 18th-century wooden sculptures from the collection of the National Gallery of Slovenia, bringing intricate Baroque craftsmanship directly to your screen—and into your space via Augmented Reality (AR).

How We Made Them: To capture the complex undercuts and lifelike textures of these historical artifacts, we used industrial-grade 3D scanning via the Artec 3D Space Spider II. For St. John the Baptist and The Immaculate Conception, we combined the scan data with ultra-high-resolution photogrammetry from a Canon EOS R5 Mark II, ensuring photorealistic color reproduction and enabling the immersive AR experience.

The Collection:

  • Home Altar of the Annunciation of Mary (17th c.): An ornate, polychrome wooden altar featuring a high-relief Annunciation scene, detailed saints, and lace-like crown carvings.

  • St. John the Baptist (18th c.): A hand-carved wooden figure capturing the emotive mid-Baroque style. (AR ready)

  • The Immaculate Conception (18th c.): A gilded sculpture by Mihael Pogačnik, depicting Mary triumphantly standing over a serpent. (AR ready)
