Digitising the Robba Fountain
We are proud to share a new 3D model of the Fountain of the Three Carniolan Rivers, a Baroque masterpiece created by sculptor Francesco Robba between 1743 and 1751. While a replica now stands in Ljubljana’s Town Square, the original marble fountain is preserved in the National Gallery of Slovenia.
The Scanning Process
To capture this massive sculpture in digital form, we used a high-tech "hybrid" approach:
-
3D Scanning: We used the Artec Leo handheld scanner to capture all accessible parts of the marble figures and stone basin with high precision.
-
Photogrammetry: For hard-to-reach areas, we used high-resolution photos from a Canon EOS R5 Mark II and an iPhone 15 to reconstruct the geometry.
-
Processing: The data was combined in Artec Studio and Agisoft Metashape to create a seamless, lifelike digital twin.
This digital version allows you to see the fountain's fine details—like the small stone snail and intricate vines—from any angle. You can even view the model at full scale in your own environment using Augmented Reality (AR).
