Digitising Baroque: St. Donatus and St. Jerome
We are excited to share new 3D models of St Donatus and St Jerome, two wooden masterpieces by sculptor Heinrich Michael Löhr. Originally carved for St. Peter’s Parish Church in Ljubljana, these stunning figures are now part of the National Gallery of Slovenia’s collection.
The Scanning Process
To bring these 18th-century sculptures into the digital world, we focused on precision and safety:
-
Technology: We used the Artec Leo scanner, which allowed us to capture the intricate wood carvings without ever touching the fragile surfaces.
-
Detail: The process recorded everything from the dynamic, confident pose of St. Donatus to the graceful, balanced stance of St. Jerome.
-
Accuracy: By digitising these works as a pair, we’ve preserved the artistic "dialogue" intended by the creator.
These interactive models offer a view of the sculptures that you can't get in a museum. You can zoom in on the fine details or use Augmented Reality (AR) to place these Baroque saints right in your own room at their actual size.
