Digitized Sculpture of Saint Leopold Now Online

13 Oct, 2025 | Return|

We’re delighted to announce the digital preservation of the Saint Leopold sculpture, making this important piece from the Klagenfurt Cathedral’s collection accessible in interactive form.

The sculpture was captured using the Artec Leo 3D scanner in combination with Canon EOS R5 Mark II photography, and processed in Artec Studio 19 to produce a faithful, high-resolution digital model that preserves every nuance of its Baroque craftsmanship.

Behind the Process

Through the integration of structured light scanning and high-resolution photographic imaging, our team documented both the sculpture’s precise geometry and its intricate surface details. Post-processing in Artec Studio 19 ensured optimal texture accuracy, resulting in a true-to-life digital representation of Saint Leopold.

Originally part of the monument of St. John of Nepomuk (c. 1737)—once located in Klagenfurt’s main square—the sculpture is one of the few surviving figures preserved today at the cathedral following the monument’s removal in 1874.
