Second Adoring Angel from Robba’s Altar Digitized

19 Dec, 2025 | Return|

As part of our ongoing digitization initiative, we are pleased to present the 3D model of the Adoring Angel by Francesco Robba, located on the left side of the Altar of the Holy Body in St Nicholas’ Cathedral, Ljubljana.

With this release, both flanking angels of the altar have now been digitally documented. Their preservation in high-quality digital form supports research, conservation planning, educational use, and public access to an important example of Baroque sculptural heritage.

Digitization Process

The sculpture was digitized using a combined approach of structured-light scanning and photogrammetry to accurately capture its form and surface detail. Data acquisition was carried out using an Artec Leo handheld 3D scanner and a Canon EOS R5 Mark II camera.

All acquired data were processed, aligned, and finalized in Artec Studio 19, resulting in a precise and visually faithful digital representation of the sculpture.

From Sculpture to Digital Model

This hybrid workflow enabled detailed documentation of the artwork while respecting its material and historical significance. The resulting digital model provides a reliable reference for future study and contributes to the long-term documentation of Francesco Robba’s sculptural work.
